Associate Professor Peter J Papantoniou is an Australian trained Consultant Orthopaedic & Spine Surgeon. He has been involved in extensive research for more than 20 years presenting and publishing research at National and International meetings and Journals.
Currently Professor Papantoniou is involved with the ongoing research into minimising pain related to surgery of the hip, knee and lumbar spine. He practices Local Infiltration Analgesia (LIA) with his Hip and Knee surgery. The technique has been extended to lumbar spine surgery with the Minimal Pain Surgery (MPS) techniques used to allow the Very Early Rehabilitation program (VERS). Patients routinely walk at 4 hours and eat and drink immediately on return to the ward. Most patients discharge home the following morning.
