Dr Paul Bamford

Dr Bamford is a general and interventional cardiologist. He graduated from Oxford University with two Masters degrees. After pursuing a career in investment banking in London, specialising in fast growth pharmaceutical companies, he completed his medical training at the University of Warwick. Dr Bamford undertook residency in Hampshire, UK before completion of his cardiology advanced training in the Central Coast, New South Wales. After attaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP, London) and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), he pursued a sub-speciality interventional cardiology fellowship at John Hunter Hospital. Dr Bamford then worked as an interventional cardiologist VMO at Tamworth Hospital before returning to Newcastle. He has recently been awarded a scholarship through the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) to pursue an international structural fellowship.

Dr Bamford is the first named author of over a dozen papers in peer-reviewed medical journals in areas (including complex percutaneous coronary intervention, heart failure and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)) and he has presented at national and international conferences. He is passionate about medical education and is a conjoint fellow at the University of Newcastle and a member of the Academy of Clinical Educators. In addition to performing coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention, Dr Bamford has level A accreditation reporting computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA). He enjoys combining travel with work, and has enjoyed working remotely in Zimbabwe, Cambodia and Tanzania. He currently consults at Newcastle Adult and Paediatric Heart Centre in Newcastle as well as Tamworth Cardiology and Rockvale Cardiac Centre in Armidale.
